"Begin again. Begin again. Every year. Every moment. Every day. Begin again..." -Shellin Lubin
The Old Year drooped like willow branches in the night, trying to catch the light. Her song was turning into rain.
The New Year , soaring behind her, cried like a cranky, teething baby. Anxious to have a voice. Anxious to live. Soon. Very soon.
He wanted to soar. To spin. To hear midnight call his name. So close. So close, he knew it would be his time.
He waited for the old year to leave. To hear her sing her one last song. All the earth waited.
The New Year was ready with his new song. To proclaim the salvation . Day unto day unto night unto night. Then it was time.
He declared thanks.
He declared glory.
The Old Year. Ancient of days. Heard the bells peal. She wept tears of relief.
She remembered when she was young. When rain was fresh and kind.
"I declare all that is marvelous," called the New Year.
He took Old Year, by her hand, and showed her his handiwork. Just begun.
Wilderness. Streams. The wastelands of earth. New. With the words of the New Year.
The Old Year sighed and faltered. "Do not worry about the past," breathed the Old Year. "It is gone. Rest now, dear one. "
The Old Year trembled in the early dawn . "I shall go to the light. Call for me, when the year needs me to be New, once again...."
The Old Year took to the wind. The New Year spread his arms, caught the earth, and its people , in his embrace. And the world heard him. It was all new. There was a new song......
"You crown the year with your goodness, and your paths drip with abundance. " - Psalm 65:11
