Renovations finally finished downstairs. And I found my fabric at last. Too long have we been parted. The things you find when cleaning up. Things I had not remembered, till now. Old wooden spools, that belonged to mum. Spools with their labels. And thread she used to wind and unwind. As if she had just been here. Sewing and sewing. Like she used to.
Recycled sari strips that I found on ebay.
I have discovered you can find anything on ebay.
Well. Not Smokey. He belongs to the neighbours.
Recycled sari strips make a great table runner.
Smokey's brother, Spencer, approves, I am sure.
I looked long and hard to find beaded fabric that was cheaper than the alternative.
Stumbled across the Indian sari strips by accident.
Grandmothers crochet hooks in an old jelly jar.
Discovered those by accident as well, when putting things back together downstairs. Great find.
Took an old bag, I had made a few years ago, and never used.
Sewed sari strips onto the flap, stitching them on by hand.
Little stars Christmas quilt, adding sari strips for middle panel.
Love the feel of the sari pieces. So tactile.
Just like the yarn I found at the bottom of a box. Mohair so soft.
Almost like Christmas finding all these things
As it heads into fall.
Another quilt square made of fabric I found on a shelf.
And green and yellow quilt squares thrown into a pile waiting to be sewn into panels
Just waiting to be stitched and pressed.
Crazy quilted into strips then rearranged.
Bags stuff under plastic, emerging to find themselves beaded and bedazzled at last.
Little stars in silk and satin. Christmas once again.
So much fabric. So much thread. Once again.
