There were creatures a-stirring, inside and out.
Cats were all perched with kibbles galore.
And skies were all pink upon distant shore.
Then two band-tailed pigeons dropped in for to sit.
They took over the seed pan and proceeded to flit.
They stuffed full of seeds, and Spencer did drool.
Cooed and they fluffed in the cold birdie pool.
Seed pan to seed pan they danced and they cheeped.
While inside the house the others did speak.
In long luscious low purrs that sounded like grrrrrrrrrs.
They watched and they wondered and fuzzed out their fur.
The humans kept prepping and fussing with lights.
In trying to bring Hope to dark winter nights..While inside the cats they plotted and dreamed.
Of pigeon pot pie with band-tailed stewed cream.
All pretty and sweet like grey mourning doves.
On this month before Christmas, they hovered with love.
By evening the tree was a-lit with white lights.
Treats were awaiting.
And candles were burning into the night.
Those two band-tailed pigeons went off till next light.
And Spencer strolled home to his warm comfy bed....
While pigeon pot pie danced in his head.
