"Ten of the most beautiful words: Beautiful in meaning and in the musical arrangement of their letters"-W.J. Funk (1883-1965)
Last week before I take apart the pots. Last of the blooms. Some of them, anyways. There have been no words to describe the roses this year. Magical.
Some will survive for a few more weeks. The Smoke Bush , these days, is frothy in its almost-fall-gear.
Smokey still hold vigil at the top of the hill.Like he does every summer. Well into fall. But the pots are slowly disintegrating. Against the sun. That hot hot sun.
So many are still beautiful. Reminded me of something I read this week about beautiful words.....
Between 1925 and 1940 Wilfred J Funk, poet, lexicographer and president of Funk and Wagnalls, made a list one summer of the ten most beautiful words in the English language.Words that flowed and generated an image along with the word.
He compiled the following TEN most BEAUTIFUL words .....
Mist
Luminous
Dawn
Hush
Lullaby
Murmuring
Tranquil
Chimes
Golden
Melody
“Summer afternoon—summer afternoon; to me those have always been the two most beautiful words in the English language.” ― Henry James
