HUMMINGBIRD NEST....

"A flash of harmless lightning, A mist of rainbow dyes, The burnished sunbeams brightening From flower to flower he flies."   John B. Tabb
Hummers are about 3 inches long. They travel some 3900 miles ( one way) from Alaska to Mexico and then repeat.
 But first. They nest.
The female will scramble to get her next ready wthin three to four days of arriving at the  breeding grounds.
"....either you take in believing in miracles or you stand still like the hummingbird."Henry Miller
She build her nest out of whatever she can find: lint, bark, feathers, leaves, moss and spiders webs. Spider webs gift it strength and expand as the babies grow in the nest.
Only a couple of inches long and wide.....
Rufuous will sometimes reuse a nest from last year, but Annas hummers never recycle. Always news.
Eggs are laid in Feb and March.
Nests are laid in conifers, or deciduous trees or bushes.
Look up.But beware of the mother hummingbird.
The nest will be sitting on the top portion of a branch. Like a little cup.
In some instances, a hummingbird has been known to perch her nest on  top of a clothesline.
After 19 days or so, they raise their babies. Then they are gone......
"Most elegantly finished in all parts, [the hummingbird] is a miniature work of our Great Parent, who seems to have formed it the smallest, and at the same time the most beautiful of the winged species."  J. Hector St. John de Crevecoeur
