IN A GARDEN by Sara Teasdale ( 1884-1933) (excerpts)
One of my favourite poets of the 20th century.....She paints with words, writes of beautiful things, and shapes phrases into images that feel and sound natural to the ear.
Quiet
Snooze
Roses droop
fresh with bloom.
Lavender at their zenith
Into the garden peace
Buzz go the bees
And the Hummers are back
Red red roses
My favourite paper roses droop and bend
And Spencer still sleeps...
" Life has loveliness to sell, all beautiful and splendid things, blue waves whitened on a cliff, soaring fire that sways and sings, and children's faces looking up, holding wonder like a cup." - Sara Teasdale
Sara Teasdale was a Pulitzer Prize Winning author. She battled ill health most of her life, was a recognized writer of her time. Her lyric poetry is some of the effortless and most beautiful. When she was 48, sick and tired of trying to find the beauty in this world, she took her own life. I highly recommend all of her poetry collections: Especially "The Collected Poems of Sara Teasdale, Intro by Marya Zaturemska",
