"Life isn't about finding yourself. It's about creating yourself...." -George Bernard Shaw
Baltimore teacher and poet Lizette Woodworth Reese lived from 1856-1935. She was born to a confederate soldier and his wife. She was named poet laureate of Maryland in 1931. I've just discovered her poems, which don't have the hoity toity language of some of other writers at the times. I love this one. From one of my ancient books. Sweet and natural.....
A Little Song of Life by Lizette Woodworth Reese
Glad that I live am I
That the sky is blue
Glad for the country lanes
and the fall of dew.......
After the sun the rain
This is the way of life
Till the work be done.
All that we need to do
Be we low or high
Is to see that we grow
Nearer the sky........
"Life is either a daring adventure or nothing at all...." -Helen Keller
Poem taken from "1000 Beautiful Things Collection, New York 1948"
