Blood Moon July 27, 2018

" The blood. the precious blood..." -Count Orlock ( Nosferatu)

Last night was the Supermoon, the Blood Moon. Where we are, located in Campbell River,B.C., meant that we did NOT see the lunar eclipse. But I DID see the Blood Moon .
The actual lunar eclipse was the longest of the 21st century, lasting 3 hours and 55 minutes, not visible in North America.
When I got the chance to find it, the moon was  low and  rusty red at times.
Yellowish, when it rose above the hill.
The Supermoon goes "red" because it is moving thru the shadow of earth, and not reflecting the sun's light.
There are those who think the Blood Moon is a prophecy of end of days, or calamities of some kind.
"...wait until the Blood moon....." -Sarah Blakeley Cartwright
The first story of a blood moon eclipse comes from 1136 B.C. from China
In the last dynasty of the Shang dynasty an ancient text refers to the Blood Moon.
Actually thought to have happened in 1059 B.C. It was said  the colours of the moon showed that there would be a change in rulers.A change in political leaders.
In 413 B.C. the Blood Moon was supposed to herald many troubles for the Athenian army fighting in Sicily.
"In the night there appeared an eclipse of the Moon, and assumed a great variety of colours. It was looked upon as a strange and prenatural phenomenom....." -Plutarch (45 Ad -127 A.D)
In 1349 A.D. the moon appeared as a blood moon eclipse. Bradwardine, a famous mathematician and scholar, fooled the people by his knowledge of the heavens. He informed the people that he could tell them when the moon and sun would be darkened together. Thought to be considered witchcraft in his day. He proved them wrong.
 Knowledge was all powerful.
Oct 13th 1837 the Blood Moon took on colours of silver, green, copper. But here at  Vancouver Island North,  in the morning, the hazy blood red sun appeared once again, doused in smoke from fires in the Interior. The day  hot. Stifling. Sweltering. Like the Blood Moon in the night....
"Tonight I'll be looking at the Blood Moon and maybe I'll think of you..." -Dominic Riccitello
