PEACH BLACKBERRY PIE

"We must have pie..." - David Mamet
When I was growing up, pie was  the bees knees. My mother  used  to make  blackberry pie, black juice dripping from pastry, sprinkled with crusty sugar, slathered in melting vanilla ice cream. These days it's golden peaches mixed with those blackberries, tasting like summer still.....
I doubled everything to make two pies.....You will need a double crust pie shell, either homemade, or frozen, or whatever you wish. I was lazy and got frozen pie shells. Worked great.

Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Cut up 8 peaches, 2 cups blackberries and add an apple cut up if you wish.
Add 1/2 cup sugar,  3 large tblsp flour, lemon zest,  pinch cinnamon, pinch nutmeg
 Mix by hand.
Add extra blackberries if you wish!
 Pile into thawed pieshells
 Dot with butter.
 Beat up an egg.
Stab pastry tops and slash to leave vents
 Slather tops with egg.
 Sprinkle with coarse sugar
Bake at 450 for about 15 minutes. Reduce heat to 350. Bake till brown and bubbly. About 45 minutes .
Cover with foil to stop browning.

ONE RACOON. TWO RACOON

"This early piece of the morning is mine..."
                                             -Wallace Stegner (Walking to Safety)
 Racoons in early morning.
Please don't eat the PumpkinWatermelonthingy that grows on the hill. It must look luscious to young racoons.
Cordelia sees the racoons walk. From the safety of her fence.
PumpkinWatermelonthingy breathes a sigh of relief.....
 One Racoon.....
 Two Racoon....
In the early light of day.
 One Racoon....
 Two Racoon..
A couple of Pumpkinwatermelonthingys shiver under their leaves.
  One Racoon.....
 Two Racoon......
Digging for grubs. Digging for worms. Yawning as they walk.
Simon squints his eyes in the sun. They dig. He squints. He stays still.
 One Racoon.....
 Two Racoon...
The Sun is up. Everything wakes. They toddle off. Yawning as they go. One Racoon.....Two Racoon.....
"Morning is wonderful. Its only drawback is that it comes at a most inconvenient time of day...." -Glen Cook ( Sweet Silver Blues)
And out peer Spencer and Rona  from their hiding place. All is well......
