CANADA DAY in CAMPBELL RIVER

"O Canada" . The Royal Union Flag on the left, with the setting sun, represents B.C.'s location at the western end of Canada. The Red Maple Leaf, on the right, was  designed by George F.G. Stanley, and came into use on Feb 15, 1965. This is only the 50th year of its existence.
                                                          "Our home and native land...."
In Campbell River  many flocked to the Pier.
To fish. To wear hats and carry water bottles.
"True patriot love in all thy sons command."
To run on the boardwalk. With a prize catch.
                                           To wade and fish.
And watch the boats toodle by. Bedecked with Canadian flags.
Tooting their horns. And toot they should.
"With glowing hearts we see they rise...."

To sit on the fishing chairs.
                                            Or on the benches.
And watch the boats  putter by.
"The true north strong and free..."
And the helicopters whirl by with tourists,
hanging on the windows with cameras at the ready.
"From far and wide, O Canada we stand on guard for thee."
And see more Canadian flags flutter in the hot breeze.
"God keep our land, glorious and free..."
And watch the helicopters swing over the beach.
"O Canada we stand on guard for thee..."
The hot sun glinting off the  ocean. Sizzle Sizzle. It's hot.
                                     30 Celsius ( that's almost 90 degrees F). Hot hot for here.
The wood carvers have finished their annual
                                                      "Transformations on the Beach".
Wood carvers from all over come to test their mettle
with the biggest hunk of wood   they can find.
                                              Making tables and chairs......
                                                   Inlaid with octopus and tentacles.
                                                    Whale and squid.
And the Peoples choice: "Scare the Crow",
wins the carving contest, hands down.
And the Carvers' Choice Award and first place awards in the 19th annual
                                                     Chainsaw carving competition for 2015.
All that is left is a log or two, fallen over, in the dry grass. And the heat
is all that remains. That and the dry grass, and the hope that it will rain.
"O Canada we stand on guard for thee......."
