King of the Rats

"Rattttttt....Oh Rattttttt. Come out come out wherever you are......."
-Spencer, the cat from the hill.
The roses droop when they hear.
 Bees sleep in flowers.
When Spencer isn't chasing rats. He sleeps in his flower pot.
And the world just  suspends itself a little more.
Lady's Mantle hides the rats. Hides the snakes. Snakes slither round pots.
Hummers hum. Buzz and Dive. Rats are elusive.
"There must be rest where a dim pool demurely watches all night the stern slow-moving skies...." -Sara Teasdale (1884-1933)
Roses. So many roses. Wet with rain. Wet rats.
And the rat. or the rats. Plural. Hide under them.
 Spencer searches high and low.
But he finds snakes. So pleased he is. But they slink away like slinky toys.
Rufuos Hummer  sees. Spencer pounces.
He catches one. Too fast to notice.
Under the roses. In the early light.
And off he trots. For his home. A present.
" Oh Ratttttt. Ratttttt. I'm waiting. Come out  come out wherever you are........"
                                                 -Spencer, cat from the hill
He is King.King of the Rats. But the sun is warm. No more rats today.....
