EAGLES in the SNOW

"May the wind under your wings bear you where the sun sails and the moon walks..."  -Gandlalf (J.R.R. Tolkein: The Hobbitt)

Early one morning, on a snow day this week, I saw a pair of eagles.
From my spot on the porch. Way up high. In a fir tree. Above the houses.
The tree bobbled and bobbled. I thought it was one big, gigantic eagle.
 Hunting. Looking. Seeking.
Then I heard the cries. The calls. Like lonely dinosaurs.
They  talked to each other. Sounding so much like raptors on the hunt.
"If we never had the courage to take a leap of faith, we'd be cheating God out a chance to give us wings like eagles, and watch us soar..." -Jen Stephens ( the Heart's Journey Home)
They conversed for a while and I could hear them clear as day in the cold  early morning air.
At night, eagles can reduce their body temperatures, reduce activity and conserve energy. Their feathers are great insulation.
When they find food, they stuff themselves silly, not allowing any other eagles to steal.
When they have eggs they can tuck the eggs close under their bodies, keeping the brood warm
Eagles can live quite well in cold, as long as there is food available.
Eagles will only migrate if the food supply is low. But I recognize these eagles. They're here year round. Their nest is down below in the forest.

I love hearing their prehistoric calls, early in the morning. Nothing like watching them soar and sway together,  into the snow of their forest......
“Those eagles, like angels, don't distinguish between work and play. To them, it is all one and the same.”
