LEMONADE 1851

"The scent of honeysuckle hangs in the darkness like the thick glob of sugar at the bottom of a glass of lemonade..."  - Erika Robuck.
This recipe is based on an 1850's recipe I found. It  is  simple and probably one of the best  Lemonade recipes I have tried. Does not have that harsh bitterness you find with premade  ones.
After trying this you will want to keep it on hand. This is something like what my mother would make for company. A recipe her mother would make for socials.

LEMONADE 1851

¾ cup sugar ( I’ve tried Stevia substitute…totally gross on the Grossameter…stick to sugar. Maybe you can find something else. The sugar you can even lessen if you want to just above 1/2 cup.)

3 ¾ cups water

2  grated lemons to make zest

1 large grated orange to make zest

2 whole cloves ( if you wish)

6-8 Squeezed fresh lemons.

Lemon slices for garnishing

MAKE SUGAR SYRUP: In saucepan, combine sugar, ¾ cup of the water, the lemon zest, orange zest, and cloves ( if using). Heat over medium heat till all dissolved, stirring constantly.

Let cool to room temperature. Discard cloves and zest by straining through a sieve.

"Laughter is the sunbeam of the soul..."
-Thomas Mann ( The Magic Mountain)

MAKE LEMONADE

In large pitcher, combine the syrup, lemon juice and remaining water.
You can top up the pitcher with more water if you wish.
You can drink this straight in glasses with a slice of lemon,

or can add a little to ice water for something refreshing.

Absolutely incredible
Not tart. Not too sweet. Not sour.
Just right......
